West Bend public archery range set to open

Legendary Whitetails 9.5.2012

The West Bend Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will hold a grand opening ceremony on Saturday for the city’s public archery range.

It’s the first public archery range in Washington County, said Justin Casperson, recreation supervisor for the City of West Bend.

The project was completed with $9,750 in donations from sponsors, Casperson said, and used no public funds.

The financial donors were Legendary Whitetails, West Bend Fire Fighter’s Charities, Pheasants Forever

Ozaukee/Washington County Chapter and Whitetails Unlimited Washington County Chapter.

The range is located at the city’s waste water treatment plant on south Municipal Drive.

The range features seven ground level targets, a two-tier elevated platform with four targets, shooting stairs, bow racks, a waiting area, picnic tables and parking.

It will be open to the public and free to use for archery; hours of operation will be announced at a future point.

The public is invited to the grand opening on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The photo below, provided by West Bend Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department, shows the range prior to completion. The targets will be placed on the wooden platforms.
